Supporting our Primary Children
Learning and growing with children of all ages
The beauty of International School Hilversum is our size. Everyone learns, works, plays and socialises under one roof and so everyone knows everyone. Our primary children grow up alongside our teenagers and share some whole-school activities including the primary school play and the talent show. All ages share the same school library and peer learning is something we value whenever the opportunity allows.
Learning outside the classroom
In our efforts to help our children learn through diversity, we create many opportunities to learn outside the classroom as we believe this helps children to understand and remember their learning in a real context. Our primary children enjoy many local visits and outside learning experiences to achieve this.
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
This is a group set up by the parents to provide a range of extra-curricular activities for the primary children including sport and art and craft. Activities vary from one school year to the next.
“We’ve been on a trip with every unit and we watch movies about our units. I really like the field trips and learning that way. We went to the Batavia ship that was sunk. We looked around it and were told what happened in the rooms. That was for the Megastructures unit. We also did a recycling unit. We had to sort the rubbish into different recycling bins. We went home and did the same thing at home. Now I know what to do.” – Luke (grade 3)
